Towards Accurate Recovery of Shapefrom

چکیده
We present a surface radiance model for diiuse lighting that incorporates shadows, interreeections, and surface orientation. We show that, for smooth surfaces, the model is an excellent approximation of the radiosity equation. We present a new data structure and algorithm that uses this model to compute shape{from{shading under diiuse lighting. The algorithm was tested on both synthetic and real images, and performs more accurately than the only previous algorithm for this problem. Various causes of error are discussed, including approximation errors in image modelling, poor local constraints at the image boundary , and ill-conditioning of the problem itself.

We introduce a variational method for multi-view shapefrom-shading under natural illumination. The key idea is to couple PDE-based solutions for single-image based shapefrom-shading problems across multiple images and multiple color channels by means of a variational formulation. Rather than alternatingly solving the individual SFS problems and optimizing the consistency across images and chann...
متن کاملExtending shape-from-motion to noncentral onmidirectional cameras
Algorithms for shape-from-motion simultaneously estimate camera motion and scene structure. When extended to omnidirectional cameras, shape-from-motion algorithms are likely to provide robust motion estimates, in particular, because of the camera’s wide field of view. In this paper, we describe both batch and online shape-from-motion algorithms for omnidirectional cameras, and a precise calibra...
متن کاملAn Investigation into the Recovery of Three-Dimensional Structure from Two-Dimensional Images
This thesis details the implementation and investigation of an algorithm to recover models in 3D from sets of 2D images. Recent attention in this field has switched from investigations into static scenes to dynamic reconstruction of scenes, for applications in creative media amd the biomedical sectors, with particular attention on real time performance. The technique by which model recovery is ...
